The 6 chairs are Mahogany, Chippendale style chairs made in England in 1924. They were commissioned specifically for the 1925 Royal visit to South Africa, as Ryno Johannes Verster (as major of Cape Town) would have to host the some of the royal party, including Prince Edward (Prince of Wales at the time and later King Edward VIII) and wished to have suitable furniture for the dinner.
History of the 1925 Royal visit to Cape Town
His Royal Highness, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII) visited South Africa and other colonies / countries within the British Empire on a Royal Visit in 1925. The visit included a visit to Cape Town between 30 April and 2 May 1925. At this time, he was hosted by Ryno Johannes Verster (amongst others), who was major of Cape Town at the time.
